Welcome to the new book I have been reading and will be sharing with you over these next couple of weeks.
I came about this book on social media. My cousin posted it on Instagram tagging it as a great book. It was recommended by a high school friend, Annie Oliver Sanchez, who has started a wonderful movement Soul Sisters, LLC, of not only Fair Trade jewelry buying, but also started a new local women's health empowerment program in South Florida. Oh, how I wish I could participate in her Walks and Talks. I guess I picked up the book so I could feel a part of this group. Stay tuned as I share my thoughts. Please feel free to let me know your thoughts as well. |

It's been a while since I updated on my reading, however the end of the school year, parenthood, and post-grad world has taken over my life. The nice thing is that I have maintained my smoothie life in the mornings. I will tell you traveling was a challenge but I am learning how to work around that. I bought a shaker cup on one trip. And now that I am prepping for another, I actually purchased a Magic Bullet to take with me.
The other great thing is that I am back to working out. I finally was released at the end of May from PT for the torn Achilles.
I have not finished the book, but it is on my counter and I use it daily to make new recipes of smoothies. You can't imagine what adding avocado to your smoothie will do. It's amazing. It gives it a really smooth and creamy texture that you would not believe. I have experimented with the Matcha powder and the MCT oils as well.
I had to pause reading when things in life went a little cray cray. And I really want to give it my whole attention. I have started to take steps by purchasing a Passion Planner. Kelly recommends journaling and setting targets. My daughter asked me for one of these planners for her bday, and when I visited the website I felt it would really fit my new lifestyle. I encourage you to visit www.Passionplanner.com. Once I start using it daily I will post back what I think.
So Kelly would say you don't fall of this program because it's not a program or diet. What I do hear Kelly in my head daily say is reminding me to take care of me, reset on days that are bumpy, and not to stop. I can't wait to keep making the adaptations to my new lifestyle.

Happy Mother's Day!
I can't think of a better day than today to share about Body Love, afterall as a mom we often put ourselves last when it comes to really taking care of ourselves.
It's been one week since I started putting this book into practice. As Kelly suggested I started with the #fab4smoothies. I have tried the recipes for Snickerdoodle, Dark Chocolate Dipped Strawberry and Peanut Butter and Cacao Nib. All delicious and super filling. In one week I have already shed one pant size. AND THE BEST THING IS I AM NOT HUNGRY!!! I have done nothing different other than incorporate a smoothie meal and paid attention to my body and how I am feeling. Am I truly hungry and feeling hungry or am I bored or stressed? I can't explain it but I feel like my body is so much more alert with the blood sugar regulated.
In part 2, Fab Four Solution, (Chapters 5-7), Kelly takes you through the steps of getting started. She includes a whole section on getting to know yourself. She lays out tools for you to help you get started. Some of these tools are not new...but they are presented very much on how to speicifcally help you. She goes from the "Why" to setting goals. I love that she references other people I am already familiar with from my business side of life. For example, making SMART goals... Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time Bound. She also references one of my favorite authors that I actually blogged about last August, Carol Dweck. This is when she brings in Mind Set...and the need to have a positive one. All of Chapter 6 is devoted to recipes. Simple, clean eating. And of course a whole yummy section on what feels like a million smoothie recipes. Kelly includes a beautiful color spread of what her typical week looks like. Now, this is my caveat...she is not a mom YET, like so many of us, running to five million practices, volunteer hours, staying up all hours waiting for a teenager to get home, balancing work life, family life, and a home. BUT it is all still very practical advice. And advice you can follow. And strategy you can put into practice and succeed.
The true test for me is these next 3 weeks. Between wrapping up the school year, graduation activities, starting my summer grad class, teaching all day, running kid two to practices and assisting kid one with new work wardrobe selections, AND traveling away from home...I need to have the MIND SET and the tool kit to succeed. I can tell you one of the best suggestions she gave so far is her "Roadie" smoothie. I had to reach for one the other day... quickly between kid two's 2 practices, I blended up the Dark Chocloate Dipped Strawberry and split it with said kid. I was so full, I could not eat the delicious dinner I had prepared.
If you haven't joined me yet in devouring this book...then what are you waiting for? Grab the book from Amazon today.

Kelly LeVeque is the author of this book. Kelly has helped celebrities like Jessica Alba and regular people like you and me. Since I opened the book on Thursday, I have decided to become immersed in all things Kelly and have become an Instagram follower of hers as well, @bewellbykelly. In fact I have taken on #bodylovebookchallenge as my new challenge.
She swears it's not a diet like most diets. Of course, I have heard this many times too...it's a lifestyle. So, I am diving into this head first. I am accepting it's a lifestyle. Kelly says it's easy to reset and let go of the food drama. Kelly says there will be no bad foods, no calorie counting or points to watch. Sign me up!
So far, the first few chapters of this book ( Chapter 1-4) are filled with scientific terminology, however it is not a difficult read. She simplifies with many explanations. She uses client's stories to share how this #fabfour works.
What caught my attention right out of the gate was the....Live in Balance...Weigh What You Want on the title. Seriously, who doesn't need a little more balance, a little less drama and weigh what you want.
She does a great job for explaining the problem with juicing and fasting. I for one have only done a one day juice fast because I just don't see what the benefits really are long term. Kelly explains to the readers how it's really about our sugar and the levels of our sugar. I can't explain it in her great detail. I know I am not even doing it justice right now. BUT, this makes a lot of sense for me. Most of my gluten free substitutes are riddled with sugars...even healthy ones. I don't eat a lot of sweets but I am getting lots of sugar from my fruit plus in my gluten free substitutes.
In our household we have been gluten free since 2001, when I had my first anaphylaxis reaction. I have a rare condition called Exercise Induced Anaphylaxis. But even earlier in 1997, we made a conscious effort to make our pantry a clean one...got rid of most processed foods, but concentrated on ridding ourselves of partially hydrogenated oils as well as all food dyes. A few years back my family decided to join me in the gluten free efforts and went virtually Paleo. I am a self-professed foodie and I LOVE to cook. But what I miss most since my diagnosis is feeling like I live truly balanced and the scale numbers have kept creeping up. I have no medical issues other than: I eat Wheat = I die. The doctors have all told me, other than my weight not being what it could or should, I am super healthy with all my numbers.
Kelly recommends starting off the first week by just making one change ,and that is incorporating daily one of the #fab4smoothie recipes. I really didn't have to buy much for my pantry, but did switch our regular Vanilla Almond Milk to unsweetened and did purchase some flax seeds to incorporate. I did take a picture of her pantry and fridge staples (page 180-182) and bought some Coconut Aminos ... should be a substitute for soy sauce which I can't have since it has wheat. I also switched our mayonnaise....which we don't use often for the Primal Kitchen Avocado oil mayonnaise.
So far, it's day 3, and I have made the Snickerdoodle and the Peanut Butter Cacao Nib....which I switched with Almond Butter as we feel for our house it's a better health option. I have to tell you, they are super filling. It really does fill you up and you feel energized. I had no snacks between my smoothies and my lunch. And I ate lunch super late both days.
So.... let's see if this book can help me be more balanced, reduce my food drama, and help me accept a weight I can be happy with. So let's see if this can change my life. On to Part Two...The Solution and Knowing Yourself.
